Title: 'Communitarian Agreement'
Abstract: My aim in this talk is to explicate agreeing as epistemic source in the context of communitarian epistemology. I suggest that some forms of agreeing are themselves epistemising in a foundational kind of way. A number of caveats need to made in order to pin-point precisely what an adequate account of agreeing amounts to for the communitarian and that we might also pin-point specific sorts of cases as exemplars of their instances. The exercise of circumscribing in a loose way possible relevant instances, eliminating bad examples, and focusing on good ones goes to add conceptual clarity to the theoretical target by contrasting close cousins. The upshot is a clarification the relevant types of agreeing, and the implications for a communitarian epistemology.
