Personal Profile - adding and editing content

A comprehensive tutorial is available to guide you through the simple procedures to add content to your personal profile, edit it and keep your information up-to-date. Choose a version of the tutorial movie below to suit the computer you are using to view it:

Personal Profile Information

Please include some brief biographical information in line with the following suggestions:

Important: Please do not paste copied text directly into the Biography panel without first using the 'Paste as Plain Text' or 'Paste from Word' functions in the tool bar of the panel. You may use the simple text formatting functions on the tool bar after the paste operation. If you do not use the 'Paste as Plain Text' or 'Paste from Word' functions conflicting formatting and extraneous code may cause adverse results and problems which have to be rectified afterwards in the html code.

If you would like to add supervised students to your profile please contact the Postgraduate office to ensure they have the same information in their records.

If you previously created a subject area personal home page that home page address may already be included with your profile but you may also wish to include an external home page address.

Location Information

All that is required here is your room number and building code only - full postal addresses are available from the subject area home pages or specific contact web pages.

The academic and research staff lists are examples of the format required to keep the lists compact and tidy.

Telephone Number Format

The recommended format for telephone numbers is: #### ### ####
Numerous examples of the telephone number format are to be found in the academic and research staff lists. For consistency please use this format.

Personal Photo

Photo dimensions

If you wish to upload a personal photograph to your profile please make sure its maximum dimensions, at the required resolution of 72dpi (or 72ppi), are 100 pixels wide by 125 pixels high. Images larger than this will adversely affect the layout of your profile and take up more memory on the server.

Please contact Roy Welensky if you need assistance to format your photograph to the correct settings for upload to your profile page.

Photo blank

If you do not wish your photo to appear in your profile please replace the placeholder image with the blank image immediately to the left of this text (by left-clicking on the area to the left and saving the blank image to your computer).

When you upload the blank image to your profile it will replace the placeholder image automatically.

Events - adding and editing content

The field titles in bold are required to generate the event for the system, the remaining fields are optional.

Title field:

This becomes the main heading and part of the URL for the event so consider carefully what to use here - and keep it short. For example, if the event is to advertise a lecture, seminar or research group event then use the name of the group as it will catch the eye of your members and visitors. Do not use the title of the lecture, seminar etc.

Description field:

Start and End fields:

Click on the icon to the right of the field boxes to conveniently set the date and time of the event using the calendar function. Otherwise use the format "02 Mar 2010 17:00".

Event Type field:

Please select the appropriate type of event.

Address field:

This information will direct your visitors to the venue of the event.

Once the new event is added to the system it will appear in the News and Events feeds panels on the home page and relevant pathway web pages, and in the list of events for the appropriate month.
