Degree Transfers

In the College of Humanities and Social Science (CHSS) there are three main categories of degree transfer:

  1. A transfer from a current CHSS degree programme to a different CHSS degree programme that would not require an additional period of study;
  2. A transfer from a current CHSS degree programme to a different CHSS degree programme that would require an additional period of study;
  3. A transfer into a CHSS degree programme from a programme in one of the other Colleges (this might or might not require an additional period of study).

Students wishing to request a degree transfer in the first category should apply to the Student Support Officer for the school that 'owns' the degree programme into which you want to transfer. For PPLS-owned degrees, this is done using the 'PPLS Degree Transfer' form. These transfers will be considered after the May exam boards and up until Friday of week 3, semester 1. Decisions are made by the PPLS UG Director and are based on:

Students wishing to transfer into CHSS, or where a transfer request extends the length of the period of study (categories 2 and 3 above), should apply to CHSS using the 'Degree transfer into CHSS/additional year's study' form. There is a strict deadline (see form), usually the end of March, and only a limited number of places are available. No decisions will be made on these requests until the summer vacation when degree examination results are known. Please note that the deadline for all applications for transfers into BEd (Primary and Physical Education) and Fine Art is earlier, usually December.

Please note: PPLS students wishing to transfer to a degree programme in another School within CHSS are advised to consult that School at an early stage. Transfers are not always straightforward, even for transfers between a combined honours degree and a related single honours degree programme (e.g. MA Business Studies requires some compulsory courses to be taken at first year).

Accessible Learning

We aim to help students maximise their academic potential and get the most benefit from their programme of study and university experience. In line with our strategic goals of excellence in learning and teaching, we seek to enhance the student experience by creating a learning and teaching environment, and culture, that is dynamic, accessible and inclusive.
